A near-sell-out crowd packed New Journey Church on Saturday, August 26 for the 9th annual “Music for Ministry”, a Greater Greenwood United Ministry (GGUM) fundraising event.
Sponsorship revenue was at an all-time high with Superior Roofing being the Presenting Sponsor.
Nearly 100 businesses and individuals donated a vast array of products for the Live and Silent Auctions.
New Journey Church Pastor David McIntyre joined GGUM Executive Director Rosemary Bell on stage along with Emcee Jonathan Link keeping the crowd engaged and uplifted.
Auctioneer Daryl Dodgen teamed up with Darby Bell to host the live auction offering colorful descriptions and persuasive commentary, keeping the crowd in stitches.
By far the star of the event was truly the Holy Spirit as the touching performances literally drew tears, uplifted hands, and chills.
There Were Many Highlights
Phoenix Academy’s stand-out performance moved the group off the stage and out into the spirit-filled audience.
Other worship teams and choirs, Siloam Baptist, Bethel Mennonite Church, New Journey Church, New Faith Praise Dancers, and a resounding version of Amazing Grace performed by Rev. Willie Forest (a GGUM board member) each helped spread the electrifying spirit.
Mt. Olive Baptist Church along with Soloist Kim Smith, Legacy City’s Worship Team had the crowd bobbing their heads and on their feet with rousing applause.
Executive Director Rosemary Bell was overwhelmed by the palpable presence of God in the room.
She says, “The performances, the crowd, the donations, the sponsorships are all so important and a big deal for the ministry but what I found to be the “Sweetest” thing about this year’s ‘Music for Ministry” is how it brought so many people together”.
She remarked on the diversity of people, young and old, various denominations, and how all the different churches and audience members worshipped together!
It was a very sweet outcome for Greater Greenwood United Ministry’s signature fundraiser “Music for Ministry” in its 9th year.
The savory dinner of Stomp’s barbecue chicken and pork and the sweetness of Ms. Elsie Mullet's cherry and apple crumb cake desserts rounded out the evening.
The perfect precursor to the 10th-anniversary version of “Music for Ministry” is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, 2024.
Save the Date! We’ll see you there.
