Greenwood Police confiscated nearly 23,000 pounds of food thanks to the annual city and county employee food drive competition.
Each year city and county employees collect food for local non-profit organizations. Greater Greenwood United Ministry (GGUM) was a grateful recipient again this year.
A Police escort with flashing blue lights helped make way for un-loading the haul.
Dozens of police officers, firefighters, maintenance and parks staff helped GGUM volunteers and its very exuberant, Executive Director Rosemary Bell bring in the haul to the ministry's uptown warehouse.
Each year the local governmental bodies organize this annual food drive competition.
This year's drive was billed as a "food fight". Both groups are already looking forward to Food Fight '23. "The Rematch", according to quotes from Greenwood's local newspaper, The Index-Journal.
GGUM distributes thousands of pounds of food each year to its clients and patients.
